Ms. Dillon,

I think that the ideas of such tools will provide an additional leaning tool that students could use in their own discovery of text. I was trying to follow your directions for using the MetaCarta API tool, but am unable to follow what you did with the tool. Could you please provide a more detailed instruciton set, I would really like to try to analysis some texts using such a tool. Thank you.

We can only build a finite amount of roads, bridges and so on - whereas the number of road miles traveled has been on a steady increase. As such, the trick is to manage those assets better, and geospatial technology is definitely key to this.

I am presently working with aspmap 3.0.
I want to know what kind of and how can we edit map using map interface only.
This feature is not available in aspmap 3.0.
I want to know what software can provide this feature and also if any Open Source Projects are available?
My requirement is i want to edit the two way road to one way by using mouse on the GUI so that the changes gets saved in the .dbf and other map supported formats.

To download the LOGIQ PDF map with embedded business intelligence for spatial analysis (the image at the top of this page), please visit www.globalmapsystems.com and click on Products, then GeoMarket Reports. At the bottom of the page you can download the same PDF and view the spatial analysis and business reporting functionality.

Only one BIG problem with your article above. That map you are showing in this article is NOT a GeoPDF - that is a LOGIQ PDF created by Global Map Systems (www.globalmapsystems.com)
With LOGIQ PDF, actual map feature geometry is encoded and written into logical content, as is the feature class schema. This allows additional functionality in Acrobat, such as spatial analysis and GIS data export, which is not possible with GeoPDF. Also, because multiple layers can reference a single feature class, the potential for data redundancy is reduced.
•	GeoPDF associates feature attributes with graphic elements in page content. Actual map feature geometry is not present in the PDF.
•	LOGIQ PDF stores actual map feature geometry in logical content. Spatial queries are made against the stored geometry rather than against the graphic elements in page content.
•	GeoPDF, lacking feature geometry and feature class schema, cannot reconstitute the original GIS data behind the map for analysis or export.
•	LOGIQ PDF contains the data necessary to allow spatial analysis and GIS data export within Acrobat. This is the single most powerful distinction.
•	GeoPDF does not have a mechanism for reducing data redundancy; this may produce larger files than necessary.
•	LOGIQ PDF has a mechanism for reducing data redundancy.
In short, LOGIQ PDF is a superior technology.

what's also interesting is considering the possibility of positioning *without* interpreting the content stream that's being received. that is, if a receiver is in an environment with certain static sources in range, it should be possible to calculate 3-space bearings to each. it may be possible to monitor signal strength to derive a pseudo-range, although i'm less optimistic about that.

anyway, the point is that these bearings could be converted into a set of barycentric coordinates. if there are enough static sources, least squares could be used to find position.

the problems of secondary, non-static sources, like mobile transmitters, might be solved using either "semi-interpretive techniques" or by adapting multipath filters like are used at airports for positioning by ground radar. the "semi-interpretive techniques" might parse enough of a packet stream to identify the source of something on a channel, and then discard the rest.

3-space bearings might be determined by using inteferometers which measure conic angles mounted on the receiver.

if the receiver also has some other independent means of determining absolute position, it might be able to self-survey these passive sources and estimate their absolute positions.

yeah the inclusion of GPS in the new iPhone is definitely a plus. Though, I'd like to see an improvement to google maps, to allow better placemarks, etc... then maps 2.0 / web 2.0 apps would really take off with the phone to be owned by 10 million...

"Publicly controlled" was not the best choice of words. I meant controlled by the OGC -- which is a voluntary, non-profit, international body -- rather than by just one vendor.

My source about the survey was Ron Lake, who referred to it as "a very short survey of OGC members."

A few questions:

1) "From now on, the OGC will take responsibility for maintaining and extending KML, which will now be vendor-neutral and publicly controlled." How exactly is KML publicly controlled?

2) What survey are you referencing? Can you provide a reference?
